Blog Giveaways?

Giveaways

What are your thoughts on blog giveaways?

Up until a few months ago when life got really hectic, I was offering monthly giveaways for my sponsors to co-host with me. However, they can be pretty time consuming to set up, and when I had way to much going on outside of blog world, I decided to take a little break. I’m happy to announce that break is over and I will be offering a giveaway this month!

Personally, I love giveaways – both as someone hosting, and as someone entering. As one of the hosts of a giveaway, your blog gets lots of new exposure to new potential readers. Giveaways also always give me a spike in traffic, helping my numbers. However, I don’t think new followers equal new readers. it is up to me to try to keep them coming back and convert them to loyal readers. That is why I try to save big posts that I think may get a good response for the week during a giveaway. I want to spark the attention of any new followers I get.

Entering giveaways gives me the chance to find blogs I may have never found on my own and I love that.

I have had bloggers that I’ve invited to co-host a giveaway with me reply that they are against the entire idea. To them, it is a cheap way of “buying” followers. They view it almost like cheating to grow your following. It’s as if the look down on and judge anyone participating as a co-host in a giveaway.

I understand the importance of growing holistically, purely through great content. However, I don’t think getting new exposure through a giveaway is cheating or buying followers. Like I said before, you have to work to make them readers. If you have crap content, I think many of them will simply unfollow you once the giveaway is over and their entries no long matter. I think it is possible to grow holistically, on the back of good content, while still getting new exposure though a giveaway. And really how is co-hosting a giveaway any different than paying for ad space to advertise your blog?

What are your thoughts?

P.S. ~  If  you are looking for a giveaway opportunity this month, I have a new sponsorship option – $12 gets you 2 links in my monthly giveaway and a button on my sidebar.

Gift Ideas Under $100 & November Blogger Men Tell All

NOTE: This is not a sponsored post and there are not affiliate links. I am not being compensated for any of these gift ideas, I am simply sharing some of my favorite deals!
I always have such a hard time coming up with gift ideas for my loved ones during the Holidays. To top it off,  I always have a budget and finding a good gift within said budget can be difficult. That’s why I decided to share some great deals I have found during my own search online for gift ideas UNDER $100. Some of these prices are for Black Friday deals, but don’t worry, you can purchase everything online, so no need to go wait in line and deal with the crowds or, risk being the victim of a stampede.

1| FitBit Charge | $99 | Best Buy | I have been eyeing this guy for a few weeks now. I have had the FitBit Flex for a year and a half now, and i absolutely love it, but i cannot tell you the number of times I look at it to see the time, thinking it is a watch. Well the Charge is a watch! It’s normally $129, so this Black Friday deal is great. If you prefer the Flex, Walmart will have it for $69 on Black Friday.
2| Toms | $32-$54 plus free shipping if you pay with Paypal | Toms | I personally love Toms. They are so comfortable and I have been drooling over their new slippers. They look so cozy and warm and are available for men, women, and children. I’m also in love with their new plaid slip-ons!
3| North Face Osito Jacket | $69 | Back Country | I have this jacket in black and it is one of my favorite pieces of winter clothing. It is soft, cozy, and warm. I pretty much never take it off. Plus it’s normally $99+ so you cannot beat this deal! Even better the sale is going on now, so you don’t have to wait until Black Friday! NOTE: this sale is only for the white Osito in a large.
4| Scarf/Blanket Scarf/Plaid Scarf | $3.99-$19.99 | GroopDealz | Apparently these are really trendy. I wouldn’t know about that since I know nothing about fashion, but I think they are super cute, they look soft, and super warm. I recently bought one on GroopDealz, and if you don’t want the big bulky blanket scarf, you can get an infinity scarf made out of flannel plaid like I did. They also have a ton of other scarf options, and the inventory changes daily, so be sure to check back if you don’t see something you like today!
5| Anything on GroopDealz | Prices Vary | GroopDealz | It is no secret I love GroopDealz. They have tons of great gift ideas for everyone on your list at very affordable prices.

Becoming Adorrable

It’s time for the November edition of the Blogger Men Tell All! It’s a great link up that was put together by Samantha, Melissa, and Becca and it allows the men in our lives to have a voice on our blogs. David has been a really good sport about participating and have done a great job putting up with my reminders to answer the questions.

What food do you look forward to most at Thanksgiving dinner?
Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows  I always take a disproportionate amount of marshmallows to sweet potatoes.

Do you ever go shopping on Black Friday?
All the time. I used to get up early and stand in line but now I do it all online.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?
Having family together in Florida.

Do you travel for the Thanksgiving holiday or stay close to home?
I always travel to Florida.

What are you most thankful for this year?
Thankful for the health of my family. I’m thankful to have you too!

Be sure to go ask your man these questions and link up with us!

Thank You Bloglovin

Well the roll out of the new site was supposed to take place on Monday, so I would have all weekend to transfer everything and get it ready. Unfortunately Bloglovin jumped the gun and transferred all my followers to the new blog and deleted the old one, which meant I got to try and get everything ready last night. Let’s just say I got little to no sleep, and there are still some kinks to work out. I still haven’t figured out how to redirect individual posts to their corresponding link on this site, so bear with me. I have already switched my social media accounts and email, so if you get alerts or messages from @straight_arrow_ or thestraightarrowblog@gmail.com, don’t be alarmed, it’s me. You should already be following the social media accounts – they are the same accounts, just changed the user name, so no need for any action on your part.

Thank you for being patient with me during the not so smooth transition! I don’t know why I ever thought it would go smoothly, that’s just not how my life works. In spite of being tired and currently chugging 3 shots of espresso to stay awake, I am extremely excited about and in love with my new site, so thank you for stopping by!

Have you met Kasey from Kasey At The Bat yet? If not you are truly missing out. Kasey is one of my fellow Atlanta bloggers and she is a breath of fresh air. She is extremely down to earth, fun, and like myself, she is loud in more ways than one. Kasey’s genuine posts always leave me coming back for more so be sure to check out some of my favorites: 10 things she would rather spend her paycheck on than student loan payments, 17 thoughts at 3 am, and one about how she is a sorority woman.
What made you start blogging?
I honestly started blogging personally because I had been doing it for work, then I was selected to blog for MiLB at the Baseball Winter Meetings, and everyone told me I was good at it and that they would read if I started my own. So, I did. I kept blogging because turns out, I am kind of good at it and I get to make all kinds of new friends…
What quote or motto do you try to live by?
Okay, a lot of the time it’s “what would Jimmy Buffet do?” because I like to be chill and not wear shoes and drink margaritas and lose salt shakers. When I have to be a real person though, it’s “you can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who doesn’t like peaches” because I learned a long time ago that not everyone is going to like you, and really that’s more than okay with me. I’m pretty awesome just the way I am.
What is your idea of relaxing?
My favorite way to relax is to be by any body of water with a good book and a drink in my hand. Honorable mentions, bonfires and the woods. Nature really is my happy place.
If you could drop everything tomorrow and do anything, what would it be?
Travel. Hands down. If I didn’t have any responsibilities I would see the world. The whole world. Traveling is such a dream of mine and it forces me to face my fears of flying and anything related to traveling across the ocean. My first stops would be Ireland, Costa Rica, and Bali.

Cha-Cha-Changes

As you have probably noticed, there have been some changes made to my blog. I’m excited to say there are more coming on Monday (hopefully). I will be re-branding and trying to get everything set up this weekend. We are always changing and growing, and I want my blog to be able to evolve with me.

I should be able to change all my social media and redirect my url so that you won’t have to like or add any new accounts. You will just see a different blog name on everything. This is of course assuming everything goes smoothly so fingers crossed. I hope you will stick around to see the changes! If you do, thank you in advance for bearing with me during the transition (in case there are some hiccups).
